How to pay bus fares: Ticket vending machines on railway platforms or exact cash or change. If you do not have a DART pass, you may pay your fare with the exact change as you board your bus. The fare boxes located on the bus will accept $1.00 bills, coins etc.

How to pay DART rail fares: You may buy single ride tickets and day passes from the ticket vending machines on all rail platforms. Follow the instructions listed on the machine on how to purchase your tickets. Ticket vending machines will accept coins as well as $1.00, $5.00, $10.00 and $20.00 bills.

Parkland Memorial Hospital

Directions to Parkland by Dart Bus:

Dart Bus phone (214) 979-1111. From South Garland Rd. got to the South Garland Transit Center located on Shiloh Rd. and 635 and take bus #428 (Medical Center). From Central Garland go to the Central Garland Transit Center located on Walnut and 5th St. and take bus #428 (Medical Center).

Financial Responsibilities:

Patients must meet specific financial criteria in order to be seen without paying. In order to apply for financial assistance, bring proof of identification, residence, proof of all income, proof of unemployment, and proof of family size. However, some patients may have to pay for visits, procedures, and medications. Call the Texas Employment Commission at (214) 372-1471 if you are unable to get a letter of employment/unemployment. Bring Social Security Card and picture ID.

Dallas Pregnancy Resource Center

Services: pregnancy testing, nutrition classes (one hr.), prenatal classes (5 weeks), newborn classes (2 1/2hrs.), and maternity/baby clothes. Staff- I RN, 5 Counselors, and Volunteers. Believes in pro-life. Available: M-W, 10-5:30pm; Th, 10-8pm; F, 10-2. Eligibility: free services, nothing required. Appointment preferred. Opening a medical clinic on October 8th for Medicaid patients.

Metro Family Pregnancy Center

Services: A pro-life Christian ministry non-pro fit organization. Staff-. Volunteers. Pregnancy testing, counseling, prenatal and parenting classes. Not a medical clinic. 

Eligibility: Free testing. Cost $10.00 deposit but get it back.

Parents and Partnership-ECI Program

Services: Early Childhood intervention for children with developmental delays. Services include-physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech services. Children must be under 3 years old. Eligibility: No cost for children within Garland Independent School District.

Head Start Center of Dallas

Services: Free early developmental centers. Support services for children including: educational services, medical, nutrition, literacy, drug prevention, and services to the specially challenged children. Eligibility: Services provided based on sliding scale/income.

Garland Family Outreach

Services: child abuse prevention, parenting classes. Open M-F, 8-5pm. Eligibility: free services, nothing required.

Planned Parenthood

Services: gyn exams, preg. Tests, STD screening, gives birth control, tx minor infections (i.e., UTIS). Staff. RN Practitioner, Counselors/Social Workers. Eligibility: sliding scale based on income level.

Health Services Clinic

Services: same as planned parenthood and do hormone replacement. Government funded. Open M, 9-5pm; Tues., 12-8pm; F, 9-5pm. Eligibility: sliding scale based on income (some services are cheaper than Planned Parenthood).

Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

Services: nutrition education, one-on-one counseling about nutrition, support and help with breast feeding, vouchers to buy health foods, referrals to health care and other programs, immunizations. M, 8-5:30pm; Tues., W, Tr., 8-3:15pm; F, 8-11:30am. WIC: women-pregnant, breast feeding, or recently had a baby; infants- birth to one yr. children one to five yrs. Eligibility: sliding scale based on income, appt. needed.

Child and Family Guidance Centers

Services: Psych. Clinic for children, individuals, and families. Eligibility: Medicaid, Medicare,and individual insurance accepted.

YMCA

Services: Licensed year round childcare. Enrichment classes include-aerobics, tumbling, dance, and exercise classes. Year round team sports for children. Defensive driving and karate. Open-M-F, 7-8pm; F, 7-7pm; S, 9-12pm. Eligibility: membership and monthly fees. Lower than most health clubs.

Galaxy Center

Services: group, individual, marital, child, and family counseling. Funded through United Way. Open-M-F, 9-9pm; F, 9-5pm; S, 9-3pm. Eligibility: sliding scale based on income. CBDG grant available for those who qualify, i.e., IO sessions with a $5-1 0 co-pay.

Services: Provides free childcare from ages 3 months to 5 years old. Eligibility: Must qualify for free services, based on income.

AIDS Resource Center

Food Pantry - Hot meal program Monday ñ Friday, Educational Classes, Clinic with HIV testing, dental care for HIV positive only, on a sliding scale fee. Serves the Garland area.

STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) Clinic

Call (214) 637-1819 for same day appointments, call as early as 7:45 am. Hours 8:30am- 4:40pm Monday-Friday. Wednesday 10:30-6:30. Fees are 10.00 and up, based on a sliding scale. Serves the Garland area.

Communicable Diseases Surveillance and Screening

Nurse on call to answer questions. Post contact Hepatitis B screening is free. Offers rabies vaccinations and screening for childhood diseases such as mumps, measles, and polio. Serves Garland area. 

HIV Clinic

HIV and syphilis testing is $13.00. Offers and pre and post test counseling. Results take 3-9 working days. Testing is confidential. If HIV positive has intervention clinic. Psychological and sociological counseling for individuals, couples and families. Serves Garland area.

TB Clinic

TB skin testing $12.00 done on Tuesdays 1pm-3pm, and Wednesdays 2pm-4pm. If testing is positive medical evaluation is done on a sliding scale fee costing between $40.00-$105.00. Depending on income. Includes medications and chest X-rays. Serves the Garland area.

City of Garland Health Department

Immunizations for adults and children. TB screening is $10.00. 

Planned Parenthood

Provides: Annual exams for women, including breast exams, pelvic exams, and PAP smears, STD (sexually transmitted disease) screening for men and women. Payment is on a sliding scale averaged on a one- week income. Also, accepts Medicaid.

Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas

Office hours: Monday -Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.

Accepts Medicaid only. Will assist in helping you get Medicaid. Screens for and treats STD's (Sexually Transmitted Diseases).

Positive Directions

Services: a non-profit organization, funded by TX alcohol and drug abuse offering intervention, prevention program, cultural awareness, job awareness, family education and counseling for parents and children, ages 10-17, from 4:00p-7:15p there's transportation from school to the home if living in the 75040 zip code. Eligibility: must be referred from the Garland Municipal Court to utilize these services, no financial bracket necessary,

Consumer Credit Counseling Service

Services: budgeting, debt management, debt counseling. Eligibility: free of cost if join debt program, cost otherwise based on a sliding scale, ranging from $15.00 and down

Garland Family Outreach

Services: casework provided to families and children at risk for child abuse or neglect. Eligibility: $15.00 book cost for the parenting class

Galaxy Center

Hours: 9a-9p M-Th, 9a-5p F, 9a-3p Sat. 

Services: group, individual, marital, child, and family counseling, sexual abuse treatment and prevention program, community education. Eligibility: cost based on a sliding scale, CBDG grand available for those who qualify, ie. 10 sessions with a $5-10 copay, program funded through the United Way 

Garland Police Dept-Crisis Counseling

Services: Crisis unit that provides counseling, emotional support, and resource referrals for crisis victims and/or those that have committed crimes

Metro Family Pregnancy Center

Services: pregnancy testing, counseling, prenatal and parenting classes, a pro-life Christian ministries non-profit organization. Eligibility: free pregnancy testing, $10.00 refundable upon completion of course, deposit for parenting classes

MHMR, Dallas County

Hours: 8a-5p M-F, some evenings by appointment

Services: community mental health and mental retardation programs consisting of separate programs: adult mental health services, inpatient, emergency, crisis response, liaison, geriatric, case management, and community support services

Runaway Hotline

Services: 24 hr crisis intervention service for runaways and troubled youth, providing information and referrals for shelters, counseling, medical and legal services and transportation back home. 

Resurrection Counseling Center

Services: outpatient therapy for all ages. Eligibility: free of charge

Pastoral Counseling and Education Center

Services: 46 counselors available, all with clinical psychology background, family counseling, play therapy, grief counseling, 25 satellite locations throughout Dallas. Eligibility: payment based on a sliding scale, $90 and down depending on income, must bring proof of income to first appt.

Child and Family Guidance Centers

Services: child, adults, and family psychiatric counseling. Eligibility: Medicaid, Medicare, and individual insurance accepted

Community Supervision and Corrections Adult Probation Department

Hours: 7a-6p, M-Th, 8a-5p, F 

Services: supervises probationers (ages 17 & up), referrals to alcohol, psychiatric and drug counseling. Eligibility: $25/mo (misdemeanor-less serious crime), $40/mo (felony-more serious crime)

Dental Services

Dental Health Programs (Garland COPC)

Hours: MWF 8:00am-4:30pm 

Services: basic dental work, ie: exam, cleaning, filling, extraction. Eligibility: must be a Garland resident and a child or a senior citizen, must provide evidence that you are a Garland resident with a utility bill, accepts Medicaid, appointment necessary, cost based on a sliding scale, no transportation provided.

Garland Evening School

Services: GED testing programs and evening classes. Eligibility: Must be a Garland resident

Head Start of Greater Dallas

Services: Free early developmental centers. Support services for children including: educational services, medical, nutrition, literacy, drug prevention, and services to the specially challenged children. Eligibility: Services provided to children ages 3 1/2 - 5 years, income guidelines apply, payments accepted based on sliding scale; scholarship available to qualified applicants

Garland ISD

Services: Provides public education for grades PK- 1 2 including technology academies and special education, free lunch, counseling, limited health care, resource and referrals. Eligibility: Must be a Garland resident

Garland Association for Retarded Children

Services: Provides before and after school day care and learning center for children during the school year and all-day care during the summer and spring break, must send sack lunch of full services days, open 7am-9am and I pm-6pm, Monday thru Friday. Eligibility: Must be a Garland resident ages 3-30 years

Cooperative Behavioral Center (CBC)

Services: Provides service for moderate to profoundly emotionally disturbed children. Eligibility: Garland resident attending GISD in grades K-12, contact GISD special education department for admission, days of operation correspond to the GISD calendar

YWCA

Services: Provides licensed year round child care and enrichment classes, team sports and Defensive driving. Eligibility: Fees vary limited scholarships available, call for specific scheduling.

Garland Public Library

Services: Provides GED classes, testing held at Mesquite Academy, various class schedules are available. Eligibility: Admission is coordinated through Garland High School, call for specific class schedules, text fees apply.

Dallas County Community Action Center

Services: provides a computer learning center with various PC related classes, open Monday thru Friday, 8am-5pm. Eligibility: Participants must meet federal poverty guidelines or may pay $20.00 per session.

 Eye Makers

Services: provide eye exam, glasses, and contact lens. Eligibility: eye exam for glasses costs $45, for contact lens costs $70. Accept Medicaid. Appt needed. Provide service for children older than six and adults.

Eye Clinic

Services: provide eye exam, glasses and contact lens, minor eye surgery. Eligibility: $36.00 fee, sliding scale available.

Food & Clothing

First Assembly of God

Services: provide food pantry. Eligibility: no cost. A person can only get food 3 times/yr. Need to bring some type of ID (driver license, ID card, bills etc.) 

Friendship House - First Baptist Church

Nonprofit organization. No government assistance necessary. Assist with food, clothing, furniture, household items, rent and utilities with need.

Meals on Wheels

All eligibility information available over the phone. Meals available for homebound persons.

Texas Department of Human Services - City of Garland Welfare

All offices provide food stamps and Medicaid with eligibility requirements met.

Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

WIC; Women pregnant, breast feeding or recently had a baby. Children birth to 5 years.

Provides nutrition education, support and help with breast feeding, vouchers to buy healthy food. Referrals to health care and other programs. Fees are based on a sliding scale.

Begin Again Thrift Store
New Beginning Center

Food, clothing and shelter to eligible clients.

Good Samaritans

Assist with food, clothing, rent, utilities and prescriptions. Must show proof of rent and utility bills.

The Salvation Army

Has a food pantry, will assist with clothing and shelter.

Clothes for the Needy

Provides underclothes for women, children, men and some infant clothing.

St. Michael's Catholic Church

Food pantry open Monday-Friday. Has a "Hot Line" leave message and phone number when in need or crisis situation. Will respond within 24 hours or less.

Garland Four Square Church

Assist with food, utilities and some prescriptions.

COPC - Garland Health Care Clinic

Services: Provides various medical services including the treatment of acute and chronic health problems for patients of all ages. Eligibility: based on income.

Texas Department of Human Services

Services: provides Medicaid., TANF, food stamps. Eligibility: none.

Garland Area Rehabilitation Center

Services: not-for-profit vocational rehabilitation services for the mentally and physically challenged. Each individual has a program designed to assist them to meet their vocational goals in the most prudent and least restrictive manner possible.

Outreach Health Services of North Texas, Inc.

Services: provides home health care and primary home care in Dallas and seventeen surrounding counties.

MHMR, Dallas County

Services: adult mental health services, in-patient services, emergency services, crises response, liaison services, geriatric services, services coordination and case management, community support services. M-F, 8-5pm.

American Red Cross

Services: no Garland office but serves Garland area. Assists with personal/family problems and disaster relief. 

Garland Health Department

Services: provides immunizations, well baby checkups, and other health screening services. Not an emergency clinic.

Salvation Army

Services: Offers referrals to downtown shelter for victims of family violence and homelessness. Eligibility: Call or come by for an appointment.

Runaway Hotline

Services: 24-hour crisis intervention service for runaways; provides referrals to shelters. Counseling, and transportation back home. Eligibility: none

Garland Housing Agency

Services: Offers subsidized housing for low income families, elderly and disabled. Eligibility: Must be a resident of Garland, income limits apply, call for an appointment and application.

Higher Dimensional

Services: 1: Offers Christian based 24 hour residential care for homeless people in the city of Garland, in house case management provided, transportation, medical/dental and counseling services offered through private providers. 2: Under a separate program offers technical and financial assistance for the purpose of building new single family homes; No down payment required. Eligibility: 1: Individuals must be referred through a pre-approved agencies and completed the required screening process (Texas Department of Health & Human Services, Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation); 2: Must age 18 or older, have verifiable income and be willing to live with in the city limits of Garland: no cost for service

St. Peter - Vietnamese Catholic Church

Services: free clinic services twice a year. Provide all kinds of medical (mammogram, blood test screening etc.,.), dental and eye care services.

Services: Provides high quality theatrical programs that educate, entertain, and enrich lives of citizens of Garland.

Services: Provides work adjustment training for physically and mentally disabled adults. 

YMCA

Services: Provides youth sports, fitness, aerobics, and outdoor swimming lessons. Eligibility: Family membership is $75 fee/$32 a month, single membership $60 fee/$26 a month, and youth membership is $55 fee for a year and covers swimming.

Services: For employers and employees and include recruitment assistance, prescreening, referrals, labor market information, job search assistance and general resource information. Special Supplemental Nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

Services: Provides education regarding pregnancy, breast feeding, nutrition counseling and education, vouchers for food and formula. Eligibility: Garland resident, Pregnant and or breast feeding women and their children ages 5 and under; income guidelines apply, call for an appointment.

Planned Parenthood

Services: Provides annual exams for women, breast exams, pelvic exams, PAP smears, STD screening for men and women, pregnancy testing and counseling, treatment for urinary tract and yeast infections. Eligibility: Garland resident; accepts Medicaid and sliding fee scale, call for appointment for exams
