John R. Stewart

John Stewart is professor of speech communication and graduate program coordinator at the University of Washington. His philosophy of communication research, interpersonal communication textbooks, undergraduate and graduate teaching, and consultations with technical professionals are all oriented generally toward relational thinking-and-actin and specifically toward the central relationship between how people talk and listen and who we are. His current work focuses on dialogue, understood prescriptively as a quality of communicating that can enhance human contact in a variety of contexts. Currently, John is most engaged in classroom communities, interdisciplinary academic collaborations, and stakeholder deliberations about infrastructure improvements.
