Tricia S. Jones

Tricia Jones (Ph.D., Ohio State University, 1985) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. Her teaching and research interests are in conflict processes with special emphasis on conflict competence and the development of emotional competence and conflict competence in children.

She has published over 40 articles and book chapters on conflict processes in journals such as The International Journal of Conflict Management, Perceptual and Motor Skills, Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Journal of Nonverbal Behavior, Human Communication Research, and Communication Monographs. She has co-edited the book New Directions in Mediation (Sage, 1994). In addition, she has presented over 80 convention and conference papers.

Dr. Jones is the past-President (1996-1997) of the International Association of Conflict Management. She has served as a member of the Research and Evaluation Committee for the National Association for Mediation in Education, and the Standards Committee for the National Institute for Dispute Resolution. She is currently on the Planning and Advisory Committee for the Department of Education Research Symposium in Conflict Resolution Education.

Dr. Jones has received grants from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Surdna Foundation for the Comprehensive Peer Mediation Evaluation Project to study the efficacy of peer mediation program models in a two year study in three cities; from the United States Information Agency to implement and study Community Peace and Safety Networks in the Gauteng Province in South Africa; from the State Justice Institute to study the efficacy of custody mediation in York County, PA; from the Packard Foundation to assess the National Curriculum Integration Project; and from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to develop and implement a whole school program for special needs youth.

Dr. Jones also consults on conflict processes with organizations including AT&T, General Electric, US West, Amoco, and Merrill-Lynch.

She is the incredibly proud mother of Alexander Samuel Remland and, for 23 years, the happy wife of Martin S. Remland. Her hobbies include relearning the flute, teaching herself the piano very slowly, traveling, baking, and gardening. She is a dedicated fan of the Movies (circa 1935-1950) and is currently committing to memory every Disney video ever made. She aspires to learn to fly in her spare time.
