The beauty of violets,
The strength of lions,
The brilliance of diamonds,
The love and loyalty of sisters.
Becoming an initiated sister in Alpha Delta Pi is a very meaningful experience. From the moment a recruit enters Alpha Delta Pi as an "Alpha" member (what other sororities refer to as a "pledge"), you begin a time where bonding with new sisters is essential, and forever friendships are born. Alpha education is a time filled with fun activities, yet it is also a time to learn the traditions and history of Alpha Delta Pi. The sisters of ADP, however, do not view the period of Alpha membership as a time to "haze." We are firmly opposed to any activity that would make a member feel uncomfortable or degraded. We respect Alphas as members from the time they accept their bids, and we show this respect by allowing Alphas to wear the letters of Alpha Delta Pi from the very beginning, signifying that you are indeed an equal to every other member in our sorority.
What is an Alpha Member?
After accepting a bid, a woman becomes an Alpha member and participates in a
four to six week program that culminates with initiation. This program is
designed to educate each new member about the history of her local chapter, the
international organization, and campus community while providing her with
opportunities to spend time with her Diamond Sister and other members of her
Pride. An Alpha member is a member of Alpha Delta Pi who has not been
initiated. Alpha Delta Pi avoids using terms like "pledge" or "active" in order
to instill a sense of equality in the membership process. Alpha members may wear
the Alpha Delta Pi letters, have full voice and vote at chapter meetings, hold
an office, and serve on committees. Every member of Alpha Delta Pi is a full
member, no matter what her initiation status.
Alpha Pin
Soon after receiving a bid, each new Alpha Member is presented with an Alpha pin
at the Black Diamond Ceremony. Our Alpha pin is a bar of gold with a lion above
the letters Beta, Upsilon, and Alpha, which have special meaning to all Alpha
Delta Pis.
Alpha Membership Activities
During this very special time period, Alpha Members are
introduced to the traditions, history, and unique legacy of Alpha Delta Pi.
Alpha Members are introduced to Pride Groups within the sorority, and enjoy
exciting events that both educate about ADP and allow opportunities for social
events both with Delta Members and with other social organizations on campus.
From the moment our Alphas receive a bid, a new world of opportunities, fun, and
lifelong friendships are theirs to enjoy!
Diamond Sister
A Diamond Sister is a friend who is selected as a sponsor to an Alpha member.
She will serve as a role model as the Alpha member learns about the
responsibilities and privileges of membership in Alpha Delta Pi. During a very
special event, each Alpha finds out who their Diamond Sister is, and celebrates
with the sorority the new family that they have joined! Diamond Sisters form
long-lasting friendships with each other as sisters which is celebrated during
Diamond Friendship Days, a series of special days leading up to Initiation.
Mixers - Social Events are on the calendar for Alpha and Delta Members at Baylor. From working with fraternities on Homecoming floats and service events to Date Dashes and dances, ADPs enjoy a full schedule of lots of fun!
Service Programs
Alphas always have the opportunity to volunteer at the Temple Ronald McDonald
House, our national philanthropy. Another added bonus is that with many active
ADP chapters at other Texas Colleges, Zeta Chi sisters can team up with ADP
sisters from across the state, enjoying each others company while helping those
in need!
Diamond Days
Diamond Friendship Days are the last few days of Alpha membership leading up to
initiation. These days celebrate the friendships found within the sorority as
our Alpha members prepare to learn the meaning of our symbols and traditions
through initiation into Alpha Delta Pi First, Finest, Forever.
