Orphans Awareness Week

November 1-5, 2004

Baby Blue Ribbons

The Magellan Society made several hundred baby blue ribbons to promote Orphans Awareness.  The ribbons were sold for $1 each at the Student Union Building during the Orphans Awareness Week, and they were also sold prior and during the week at multiple organizational meetings such as TriDelta, NSCS, MSO, Anthropology Society, Forensic Society, ISSA, HSA, Latin Dance Society, and many others.  We greatly appreciate the cooperation of these other organizations to support the cause.  The profit made from the ribbons sales is going to directly benefit the Love-Link orphanage in El Salvador, which is an organization that the Magellan Society International Service Trip helped in May 2004.

Two Baylor girls show their support of the Orphan Awareness Week by displaying their baby blue ribbons.

Orphans Awareness Forum

November 3, 2004

The Magellan Society made a short presentation over the orphan problem, ways to help, and the Magellan Society's role and purpose in the Orphans Awareness Week.  The Baylor student body was invited to listen to our presentation, which offered a way for students to become more involved.  We also stressed the point that the United Nations defines orphans as children who do not have the care of parents, whether the parents are present or not.

The Love-Link

All profit made from the ribbons sales was donated directly to the Love-Link orphanage in El Salvador.  The Magellan Society International Service Trip in May 2004 visited the Love-Link, and donated supplies to the orphanage including diapers, baby clothes, and stuffed animals.   It is an honor to be able to continue helping this organization.

The Love-Link is an orphanage that takes in children that have been malnourished or abused and nursed the children back to health.  Then, once the children and healthy again, with the help and at the discretion of the Salvadorian government, the children are placed in loving homes, or are given back to the families after the families have undergone specialized parental training given by the Love-Link.

This is Enrique.  The picture on the left shows Enrique when he was first brought the Love-Link.  The picture on the right shows Enrique after a few months treatment at the Love-Link.
