Preliminary conference information

 

General Information (Driving, Parking, Lodging)

We will meet in the M.D. Anderson Library, location TBA. This year we have an early registration deadline of September 15. Conference registration fees for members who register before this date are $25, and after this date $35. Also please note that annual dues are increasing from $7.00 to $10.00 if paid after September 30. Current and prospective members please print and mail the conference registration form.[link to conference registration form]. Parking

Guests of the UH Hilton may park in the hotel garage for $5 per day. You may also park for free in visitor lot 1B, near entrance 1 by the intersection of University and Calhoun. We will have someone there handing out tokens for this lot on Friday, and you can park there for free on Saturday. See the campus map link above.

The conference hotel is the University of Houston Hilton, 4800 Calhoun Street, Houston, TX 77204-3028. See http://www.uh.edu/campus_map/buildings/CHC.html for location of the hotel and directions. A block of rooms has been reserved for TMLA at $85/single and $95/double. Call the UH Hilton directly to reserve a room at 713-741-2447 or 1-800-HOTEL-UH between the hours of 9 am- 4 pm, M-F ONLY. Be sure to identify yourself as a member of TMLA. You may also email Uzi Rasheed with your name and arrival and departure dates. He will contact you with a confirmation number so you can follow-up with a phone call to give credit card information (it is not necessary to send credit card info in the email). Reservations must be made by Sept 15 in order for space to be guaranteed. Parking is available in the hotel garage. Additional parking info will follow shortly.

 

Oral History Workshop

Our main program this year is an afternoon workshop on how to compile oral histories, given by the Baylor Institute for Oral History. The workshop is funded by the MLA chapter grant that TMLA received to compile an oral history of the chapter.
