Frankenstein Saturday Story Fest at Waco Public Library

The telling of "monster" tales, including the Frankenstein monster's search for friendship, by Baylor's own Doriss Hambrick was the highlight of "Get Ready for Halloween Fun" October Story Fest. The event, co-sponsored by the Waco-McLennan County Public Library and Building a Nation of Readers, Artists, and Dreamers, was open to all ages (but was especially appropriate for pre-K through elementary age children). The fest also included a puppet show, crafts, and Halloween treats.

Frankenstein Blood Drive and Organ Donation Registration

A total of 104 signed organ donor cards and 61 came to give blood at the Frankenstein Blood and the Organ Donor drives on Oct. 13. A total of 51 pints of blood were collected. Carter Blood Care said that this was probably the best day they have had here at Baylor collecting blood on the bloodmobile.

Carol Schuetz (SSH Reference) was chair of the drives. Corey Dean, president, and members of the Christian Health Care Society assisted as cosponsors of the events. Other library committee members were Ethel Walton, John Ochola and Mary Goolsby.

Trick or Treat Night at the Library

Approximately 70 children came to the Allbritton Foyer of Moody Memorial Library to play trick-or-treat with library staff on Tuesday, Oct. 28. The event was held in connection with the Treat Night sponsored by Campus Living and Learning. Costumes ranged from the Queen of Hearts and one of her playing cards to Alice and Wonderland to Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and a mad scientist and his assistants – and that was just the library staff! Some of the costumes the children wore were the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, fairies, lions, firemen, Elmo and Harry Potter.

Children and their parents took time to peruse the Frankenstein Exhibit, with one guest commenting that it was nice to have the treat night in conjunction with the exhibit. The early medical instruments were a real crowd-pleaser. Halloween candy was also given to Baylor students as they worked at the study tables in the foyer and passed through the library entrance.

During the day, the library staff competed in costume and office decorating contests. The Preservation unit won for best decoration, and Rober Lugo received the prize for best costume. The Library Halloween Day O’ Fun Committee members were Frank and Janet Jasek (co-chairs), Janine Jones and Mary Goolsby.
