Bob Bullock was famous for his "Blue Zingers", bluntly-worded memos typed on blue paper. Should one land on your desk, you knew Bullock had a personal interest in the subject. John Paul Moore, a former Bullock lieutenant, says, "I've seen grown men, powerful people in their own right, respond with trembling and cold sweats at the sight of his blue paper."

The following blue zinger was commissioned by the Bullock Archive Advisory Board to accompany the fundraising efforts of the Bullock Archive Endowment.

TO:             Interested Parties
FROM:        Bob Bullock
SUBJECT:   Bullock Archive Endowment

Next summer, Baylor University will open the Bullock Archive, the personal, campaign and official records and memorabilia I donated to Baylor’s Collections of Political Materials (BCPM). These materials document my life’s work.

During my career, you sent me deathless prose and plenty of bad advice. Much of it is captured in the Bullock Archive. Since you are a part of this, I know you will want to see it done right. And you get what you pay for.

It might seem old-fashioned, but we're still bipartisan. David Sibley has already pledged funds, so has Stan Schlueter. Any donation will get you an invitation to the opening of the Bullock Archive, your name on the program and on the recognition list on the BCPM website. With a donation of $2,500 or more, you'll be permanently recognized on the donor wall in the Archive as well. Write a check today.

For the purposes of this contribution, it can be your money, the PAC's money or corporate funds. And, it's all tax deductible. We'll recognize any donation in any amount, and, if necessary, we'll make a list of old plugs too broke to give a nickel right now. They'll be our special collection targets next time.

Send in your gift today with the enclosed commitment card, so we can list you among the other big shots in soliciting smaller donors with less to lose than you. Susan Longley, my longtime friend and fundraiser, is working with Baylor on this important project and will take your check, cash, money order, Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover card.

I know times are hard, but if you think you have a tough time raising money, try doing it from the state cemetery.
