The Baylor Collections of Political Materials is currently in the process of creating a rare book room in the exsisting Reading Room. Here we will document the room's progress from beginning to end, as well as fully explain the details of the room.

The Blue Tape Project refers to the process of using blue painters tape to show the approximate new proportions of the room to help illustrate how the room will be laid out.

How the Reading Room originally looked.

Need: Through the years, the Baylor Collections of Political Materials (BCPM) has acquired numerous rare items requiring special storage and handling. The current facility does not contain a separate area where these materials can be housed.

Proposal: A portion of the reading room will be set aside and refurbished to current HVAC and archival standards for the long-term preservation of special collections. This newly refurbished room will accommodate rare books and special needs items currently located in Poage Library. The new room will also allow the BCPM staff to approach other collectors with similar rare and interesting collections for deposit in the library.

Book cases similar to the one below will be installed in the new Book Vault.

We are currently accepting donations to help us create this room which will truely be a great addition to our archive. If you would like to contribute please Contact Us.
