Baylor Regent Biographies

Joe Allbritton earned a juris doctor degree from the Baylor School of Law in 1949 and received an honorary LL.D. degree in 1964. Allbritton is the chairman and chief executive officer of Riggs Bank, N.A., in Washington, D.C. and owns eight network-affiliated television stations throughout the country. He lives in Houston with his wife.

Miles Allison serves in several capacities for Comstock Resources Inc., a NYSE oil and gas company. He earned an undergraduate degree in 1978, a master's in 1980 and a juris doctorate in 1981, each from Baylor.

Dr. Howard Batson graduated summa cum laude from Lander University in South Carolina in 1985, earned a master of divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1988 and a doctorate of philosophy from Baylor in 1995. He currently presides as pastor of First Baptist Church of Amarillo.

Carl Bell graduated from Baylor in 1967, returning to earn a master of business administration degree from Baylor in 1995. Mr. Bell is president and CEO of Bell Insurance Group Inc. in Dallas.

Dr. James Bowden graduated cum laude from Baylor in 1964 and earned a medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine four years later. Dr. Bowden is an orthopedic surgeon at the Waco Bone and Joint Clinic.

Bill Brian Jr. earned a bachelor of arts degree from Baylor in 1972, a juris doctor degree from Baylor Law School in 1974 and a degree in taxation from Southern Methodist University the following year. He serves as a partner of Hinkle, Hensley, Shanor & Martin law firm in Amarillo.

After receiving an undergraduate degree cum laude, Dr. Duane Brooks earned a doctorate of philosophy in 1991 from Baylor. He is currently pastor of Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston.

Mary Chavanne-Martin graduated from Baylor with a degree in business administration in 1972. She is former director of First Commerce Corporation of New Orleans and First National Bank of Lake Charles, La.

Joe Coleman earned a bachelor of business administration from Baylor as well as a juris doctor degree from the Baylor Law School in 1957. He is a senior partner for the Houston law firm of Fouts and Moore.

Will Davis graduated cum laude from Baylor with a juris doctor degree and a bachelor of business administration degree in 1954. He is a partner with Heath, Davis & McCalla, P.C. in Austin.

Toby Druin served as director of music in several churches in Texas and North Carolina before becoming editor of The Baptist Standard and retiring in 1998. Druin received a degree in journalism from Baylor in 1966 and an honorary doctor of humanities degree from Dallas Baptist University in 1994.

Minette Drumwright earned a degree from Baylor in 1951 and later attended Southwestern Theological Seminary. She is former assistant to the vice president of the International Mission Board and director of the Office of International Prayer Strategy. Drumwright currently lives in Fort Worth.

Randy Ferguson is president of RWF Investment in Austin, a firm specializing in real estate, ranching, finance and construction. He earned his bachelor of business administration from Baylor in 1971.

Rev. Louie George earned two degrees from Butler College in Tyler and studied at Southern Bible School, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Midwestern University. He retired as pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Fort Worth after 27 years of ministry.

Dr. Brian Harbour earned a bachelor of arts degree magna cum laude from Baylor in 1966 and later earned a doctorate of philosophy in 1973 at Baylor. Dr. Harbour has served as pastor at more than ten churches in Texas, Georgia, Mississippi and Arkansas. He currently serves at First Baptist Church in Richardson.

Walker Harman earned a bachelor of business administration degree from Baylor in 1969 and a master of business administration in 1971 from the University of Oklahoma, between which he served in the National Guard for one year. He is president of Overton Investments and owns Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse, with 15 locations in Dallas.

Billy Hearn earned a bachelor of music degree from Baylor in 1954 and has used his education to pursue several fields in the music industry. He currently serves as chairman of EMI Christian Music Group in Brentwood, Tenn. and is founder of Sparrow Records, one of the largest contemporary Christian communications firms in the nation.

After earning a bachelor of business administration from the University of Arkansas in 1958, Dale Jones later attended the Harvard Advanced Management Program. After serving as president and vice chairman of the Halliburton Co. of Dallas, Jones retired in 1998.

Dr. Neal Jones graduated from Texas Christian University in 1948 and received a seminary degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1952. He also holds honorary degrees from Bluefield Baptist College and the University of Richmond. Jones recently retired from Columbia Baptist Church in Virginia where he served as pastor for 26 years. He currently lives in Falls Church, Va.

Dr. Arthur Lineberger graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor of science Princeton Theological Seminary in 1977. He currently serves as pastor at Williams Trace Baptist Church in Sugar Land.

David McCall III is a partner for the Plano law firm of Gay, McCall, Isaacks, Gordon & Roberts. He earned an undergraduate bachelor of arts degree in 1969 and a law degree in 1972, both from Baylor.

Drayton McLane Jr. is chairman of McLane Group, a holding company responsible for the management of the Houston Astros Baseball Club, among other companies. McLane earned a bachelor of business administration degree from Baylor in 1958, a master's degree from Michigan State University in 1959 and later received an honorary doctorate from Michigan State. He lives in Temple with his wife.

Judge Sam Medina currently serves as judge of the 237th Judicial District Court of Lubbock County. Judge Medina earned a bachelor's degree in education and a law degree from Texas Tech University.

Charles Overby attended the University of Mississippi from 1964-68. He is currently the chairman and chief executive officer of The Freedom Forum, headquartered in Arlington, Va.

Laree Perez earned a bachelor of business administration from Baylor in 1976. As a licensed investment advisor, she serves as vice president of Loomis, Sayles & Co. based in Boston. She lives in Albuquerque, N.M.

Dr. Paul Powell holds a bachelor of arts degree from Baylor, a degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and honorary degrees from East Texas Baptist University, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Campbell University and Dallas Baptist University. He is president of the Robert M. Rogers Foundation and lives in Dallas.

Dr. Levi Price Jr. graduated from Baylor in 1964 with a bachelor of arts degree and later earned a master of divinity and a doctor of ministry degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Price has served as pastor at the First Baptist Church of El Paso since 1985.

Ella Prichard graduated from Baylor in 1963 with a major in history and a minor in journalism. She is a retired partner of The Write Group, a public relations and desktop publishing company. Prichard lives with her husband in Corpus Christi.

Having previously taught speech-language pathology at three other universities in Texas, Dr. Belinda Reyes currently serves as an adjunct professor at Our Lady of the Lake University. Reyes graduated from Baylor magna cum laude in 1981 with a bachelor of science degree in speech-language pathology. She also earned a master's degree and a doctor of philosophy from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Dr. David Sibley represents 16 central Texas counties as Senate representative. He earned a mathematics degree from Baylor in 1970 and a doctorate from the Baylor College of Dentistry in 1974. He later attended the Baylor School of Law while serving as mayor of Waco.

Ted Snider earned a bachelor of arts in radio broadcasting and a master of arts degree from Baylor and worked in broadcasting from1948-1997. Snider is a retired captain of the U.S. Naval Reserve and now lives in Little Rock, Ark.

Donell Teaff serves as a speaker and book reviewer and lives in Waco with her husband, Grant Teaff, former head football coach and athletic director at Baylor. Mrs. Teaff earned a bachelor of business administration from Texas Technological University and studied on the graduate level at McMurry College and Texas Tech University.

Jim Turner earned a degree in marketing from Baylor in 1969 and a master of business administration degree from Sam Houston State University in 1973. He is currently the chief executive officer of Dr Pepper/Seven Up. Headquartered in Dallas, the largest independent soft drink bottler in the United States.

John Wilkerson earned a bachelor's degree form Baylor in 1957. He is the chairman of the board for Wilkerson Storage Co. in Lubbock.

Hal Wingo earned a bachelor of arts degree from Baylor in 1957, a master's degree from the University of Missouri in 1963 and an honorary doctorate from California Baptist College in 1984. Wingo served as assistant managing editor and international editor of People Magazine and as far east and regional editor for Life Magazine. Wingo is now retired and lives in Richmond, Va.

Charles Wise earned a bachelor of arts degree from Baylor in 1955 and is director and owner of Medical Plastics Laboratory Inc. He lives with his wife in Gatesville.
