Mrs. Nancy Maness

Mrs. Maness' primary concern is her family. This encourages each member of our chapter to appreciate just how important family actually is. Her husband, Terry, is Dean of the Hankamer School of Business and is very involved with Baylor University. He has served on various committees such as University Council, Faculty Senate, and many others. Mrs. Maness has two children, David and Amy. Kappa Kappa Gamma has also had the opportunity to initiate Amy as one of its members.

Mrs. Maness' balance of activities not only includes her family and Kappa, but also involvement in the Waco community. She is a member of the Baylor Round Table Executive Board and has served as President of this group. She is highly involved in the Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association and contributes to our chapter as the Membership Advisor. This is a very time consuming job which she performs with grace and generosity. She and her husband are patrons of the Waco Symphony Orchestra and active members of First Baptist Church Woodway. Finally, Mrs. Maness contributes hard work and dedication to the Historic Waco Foundation. Her widespread involvement in numerous activities and her family serves as a constant encouragement to our entire chapter.

Philanthropy

Reading Is Fundamental

Along with several local philanthropy and community service efforts, the members of the Epsilon Upsilon chapter support our national philanthropy organization, Reading Is Fundamental. Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. prepares and motivates children to read by delivering free books and literacy resources to those children and families who need them most.

Founded in 1966, RIF is the oldest and largest children's and family nonprofit literacy organization in the United States. RIF programs annually serve 5.1 million children of all ages, most of whom are at risk of educational failure, with a focus on those from birth to age 11.

All RIF programs combine three essential elements to foster children's literacy: reading motivation, family and community involvement, and the excitement of choosing free books to keep.

RIF's accomplishments are due in part to the generous support of the U.S. Department of Education, corporations, foundations, community organizations, and thousands of individuals.

The Epsilon Upsilon chapter helps encourage reading through our partnership with Parkdale Elementary and our Pen-Pal program. The ladies of the Epsilon Upsilon Chapter are paired with children from Parkdale Elementary to communicate back and forth in letters. We also provide each “pen-pal” with a book at Christmas time. The Kappa ladies and children get a chance to interact and play during recess time once a week. This project is very rewarding for the ladies of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Rose McGill Fund

No Kappa sister should suffer in times of financial distress. The Rose McGill Fund, established in 1922, has many programs which give confidential aid to deserving Kappas of all ages who suddenly and unexpectedly find themselves in financial need due to misfortune or illness. The Fund has three divisionshe Rose McGill Fund aids Kappa Alumni. It has three key divisions:
  • Confidential Aid: provides financial assistance to alumna members with serious financial need

  • Circle Key Grant: provides assistance to alumna members who wish to pursue part-time educational programs related to career opportunities

  • Emergency Grants: grants available to undergraduate members who face sudden financial emergency
