Baylor
hosts national economic forum—MBA students and
faculty interact with President Bush, Vice President Cheney, cabinet
members and business leaders.
Three MBA students were among Baylor Business School representatives
who participated in President George W. Bush's economic forum nationally
televised in August from the Waco campus. President Bush and half the
members of his Cabinet, including Vice President Dick Cheney, attended
the Aug. 13 forum, in which they met with business and government luminaries
as well as the students and numerous Baylor administrators and faculty
members. Second-year MBA student Neil Luft, who participated on a panel
and met President Bush, said he believes the forum was equally valuable
for Baylor, for students and for government and business leaders in

Emphasizing innovation—New Associate Dean
Carini seeks to fortify students' 'foundational base.' Gary
R. Carini, newly appointed associate dean for graduate programs, plans
to apply his expertise in organizational strategy to elevate the national
prominence of Baylor's Hankamer School of Business. Carini, an associate
professor of management, endorses building upon the program's core competencies
as a foundation for implementing Baylor's Vision 2012 and further mobilizing

EMBA program co-sponsors Dallas Komen Race—Baylor Business
joins corporate participants in fighting breast cancer. The
Baylor EMBA program is making an important public stance in combating
breast cancer by supporting the nation's premier fund-raising effort
dedicated to eradicating the disease. Baylor's EMBA program has signed
on as a Silver Sponsor in the Komen Dallas Race for the Cure, organized
by the Dallas chapter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Baylor team is still accepting sign-ups for this year's 20th anniversary
event, to be held at NorthPark Center in Dallas on Oct. 19. Full

Balancing ambitions—Baylor student Jeffrey Hibbs pursuing
political office and his MBA. Baylor advises graduate students
to refrain from working outside of the classroom because they must typically
devote 40-50 hours per week of intense MBA-related studies. But Jeffrey
T Hibbs of Waco, the Republican candidate for State Representative from
District 57, is engaged in his first political campaign while concurrently
enrolled in Baylor's MBA program. Hibbs has spent the last year balancing

Baylor EMBA degree accelerates alumna's career—McCain
promoted to vice president two days after graduation. Baylor
really does mean Business for Karen McCain, who was promoted to vice
president of sales operations of Morningstar Foods Inc. just two days
after her graduation in May from Baylor's Dallas Executive MBA program.
McCain, whose immediate ascension attracted coverage in the Dallas Business
Journal, attributes her success to the essential analytical skills she
acquired through the EMBA program. She plans to help her colleagues
shape their own plans to advance their careers. Full

AA.com is fall 2002 Focus Firm—American Airlines division
becomes laboratory for MBA students. AA.com, the electronic
commerce division of American Airlines, is the latest company to participate
in the Baylor MBA Focus Firm corporate alliance program, forming the
centerpiece for a semester-long project. AA.com is serving as a "living
laboratory" for Baylor MBA students who are getting an opportunity
to examine how the theoretical principles they've discussed in classes
