Baylor Business is proud to announce that a Healthcare Administration specialization has been added into the MBA program for Fall 2003. The new healthcare administration elective courses, healthcare internship opportunities, and mentoring relationships create an environment for students to explore current medical administration issues and to tailor their studies to personal career goals in progressive, leading health organizations.

The healthcare administration specialization will consist of five courses plus an internship, allowing students to apply classroom skills in progressive medical organizational settings. The practicum coupled with field excursions will assist students in gaining a first hand introduction to the medical administration environment in local health organizations. The seven-month internship will be tailored to individual student interests and will be located in some of the finest health organizations in Texas and the country.

Students will get their first exposure to medical administration in a healthcare elective course taken in Lockstep 1 as they meet working health executives. Then during their internships, students will be able to tailor their studies to personal career goals in progressive, leading health organizations located throughout Texas, including Houston, Dallas, Waco, and San Antonio. Opportunities also exist outside of Texas, including a seven-month internship in one of the nation’s leading health consulting firms in Washington D. C. They will work closely with a preceptor in the organization and a Baylor faculty member to maximize learning experience.

As students prepare for a career in health administration, they will be introduced to the professional organizations providing lifelong educational programs for medical executives and given the opportunity to establish early mentoring relationships. During the two-year program all students will be given the opportunity to attend a major state or national health education event.

To learn more about the new healthcare specialization, the Graduate Programs Office invites you to attend one of three alumni lunches to be held in Austin, Dallas and Houston. Mr. Scott Garner, who has an MBA in healthcare administration and is coordinating the specialization for Baylor, will talk with alumni more about this exciting opportunity.
