East Africa Semester Abroad

Initial Application

This application is used for tentative acceptance into the EASA program based on the following: good academic standing at an American college or university, essays, demonstrable communication skill, maturity, two academic recommendations, and an interview.

Checklist for Consideration:

1. Written Application

  1. General Information Sheet, Part I
  2. Short essay answers to Part II, questions 1-8
  3. Long essay, Part III
  4. Two (2) academic recommendation forms
  5. Registrar's Release Statement
  6. $30 non-refundable application fee for non-Baylor students

2. Oral Interview:

It is your responsibility to schedule an interview:
Baylor students: Submit your written application in person to Ms. Gail Nichols, Center for International Education, Second Floor of Poage Legislative Library, and schedule a personal interview at that time.
Non-Baylor students: Call Ms. Gail Nichols (254-710-2657) to schedule a telephone interview.

Please note the following:
1. Since the maximum enrolment for the program is 12, students are urged to turn-in their applications and schedule an interview as soon as possible.
2. Students currently on disciplinary probation are not eligible to apply.
3. Non-Baylor students who are accepted into EASA will have an application for admission to Baylor initiated by the staff of the African Studies Program in order to be approved as transient students for the semester abroad.

Application Instructions:
PRINT THE FOLLOWING AFTER CLICKING ON EACH ONE:
1. Part I, General Information Sheet. Use a typewriter or black pen to complete this sheet. Please advise EASA of any changes in your address or telephone number that arise after you submit your application.
2. Part II, Questions 1-8, and Part III, Essay. Provide typwritten answers to the short essay questions. Label the answers (1., 2., etc.). Part III, Essay. Again, use a typewriter or computer for your explanation. Be sure your name is on each page submitted.
3. Recommendation Forms. Two faculty recommendations are required. Be sure to sign the form. Give the recommenders suficent time (2-3 weeks) to complete the recommendation form by the due date. Read the quesions on the recommendation form and give them to profesors who can adequately evalute them. Note: you should print two of these.
4. Registrar's Release Statement. Sign this form and give it to your Registrar.
