Tenth Biennial Meeting

The BAPT executive committee is pleased to announce the dates and location of our tenth biennial meeting and to extend an open call for conference papers. Papers should be less than 4000 words in length and not exceed a reading time of 25 minutes. The deadline for submission of papers is August 2, 2004. Submissions, with author identified only on a separate title page, should be sent by email attachment as a Word (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) file to dstiver@hsutx.edu. Please indicate whether you prefer to have a commentator prepare a brief response to your paper. If you do, indicate the name of a possible commentator with your paper submission. Proposals for panel discussions are also welcome. You should indicate a topic (for example, teaching methodologies, book discussions, discussion of current state of scholarship in particular fields, and so on) and a list of the panelists who will participate.

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Linda Zagzebski, Kingfisher College Chair of the Philosophy of Religion and Ethics at the University of Oklahoma, will give the conference keynote address. Dr. Zagzebski, who holds a B.A. from Stanford University and a Ph.D. from UCLA, previously served as professor of philosophy at Loyola Marymount University and is the author or editor of five books, including The Dilemma of Freedom and Foreknowledge, Rational Faith, and Virtues of the Mind. Her sixth book, forthcoming this year from Cambridge University Press and titled Divine Motivation Theory, offers “a non-teleological, motive-based virtue theory with a theological foundation.” Dr. Zagzebski has also pursued scholarly work exploring the problem of religious diversity and social responsibility, the incarnation, and phronesis and Christian belief. Among numerous other professional activities, Dr. Zagzebski currently serves on the executive committee of the Society of Christian Philosophers.
