Neopets issued the following reminder about chain letters/message boards: Recently people have been sending chain letters promising some reward from the Neopets team if you send the message on to x number of people. This is totally false, we do not reward people for spamming and anyone found doing this could have their account frozen. Chain letters are annoying rubbish and we will not condone them. (November 1, 2002) Obviously, this was not strong enough, because this follow-up was issued: UPDATE - If you post any scam chain letters (i.e. post this on ten boards and get a faerie paint brush) then you will be frozen. You have been warned! (November 14, 2002)

Neopets is going to be replacing Whackabeast with a new game where members of the Neopets Team pop up and you have to hit them on the head. (November 4, 2002)

Neopian Educator now has it’s own domain name at: http://www.neopianeducator.com and is being reworked and switched over to the new site. Many of these pages will be left on the Baylor University servers and will serve as a “mirror site”… at least until we can get everything switched over properly.

We are hoping to be able to offer Neopets merchandise for those of you who do not have a Limited Too or Clare’s in your area.

Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, or whatever...

Gwynniae, or Gwynn for short, stuck her head in the room and called out over the Fluffy Sounding Speaker, “Hey, JC! We’re here!”

The desert aisha, Jenny945, looked up from her book with an excited grin. She closed A Warm Christmas and switched off the round table lamp on her wooden desk as the baby zafara crawled into the room.

“Great! We’ve been cooking all day…or at least most of the day.” JC turned the speakers down and flopped down on the bed next to her friend. She could hear the others downstairs in the parlor. Tonight was the last big get-together before everyone headed different places for “the holidays”. She had already watched as many of her friends had left. They chatted back and forth without making any effort to head to the parlor until another head poked inside the door. It was Traumaneo, Gwynn’s electric tonu brother. JC waved him inside and he made himself comfortable on the thick cream rug.

“Galanci will be up in a bit. He’s trying to interest Krawkie in a practice BD match.” JC laughed. She had known them long enough to know that despite whatever diplomatic phrasing the friendly tonu used, that what had PROBABLY happened was the ever complaining skunk krawk had said something to upset the baby draik and had been issued a challenge.

“Happy Hanukkah!” Piped Galanci3987 as he made it to JC’s door. Krawkie_ followed close behind with a surly expression.

“JC celebrates CHRISTMAS,” He smugly informed his little brother. Even the normally easygoing tonu glared at him when Galanci’s face fell. Before JC could retort, Gwynn rounded on her brother.

“Just because you’re nervous about the holidays, you shouldn’t take it out on him. Don’t ruin things for everyone else just because you are SCARED.” JC blinked in bewilderment.  Gwynn turned to JC, “He thinks we’ll be left alone during the holidays. Remember all the others left here last year without any food or shelter? The Soup Faerie couldn’t even keep up.”

“But…MobileChick7 wouldn’t do that to you! She loves you!” JC looked at the others and realized that Gwynn, the oldest, had only seen one holiday season. The two youngest were barely half a year old…and they were afraid of tomorrow’s departure. Obviously, they had heard all the horror stories from other pets of being left to fend for themselves over the holidays. JC had fond memories of the last two years. StaggPub had booked her in the NeoLodge with all sorts of extra goodies as a special treat before she went on a trip to some Earth place called Washington, DC for Christmas. This year, she had saved up a few np on her own and planned to rent all sorts of video games.

StaggPub and MobileChick7 came upstairs chatting. On the way into the guest bedroom, StaggPub was telling her how much easier things ran with the Robo Acara helping in the home office.

“Are you about ready to eat?” MobileChick7 asked them, peeking into JC’s room. Everyone trooped downstairs to the dining room, with Gwynn and Galanci riding on Traumaneo’s back. JC noticed that the mood wasn’t as happy as it was before Krawkie clouded the festivities.

As StaggPub passed around plates heaped with food, talk naturally turned to plans for tomorrow. JC tried to throw in an offhand question that would relieve her friends’ fears.

“Will you be staying here for the holidays?” She asked MobileChick7.

“Not this year. In fact, the caretaker will be closing up the house tonight.” Before JC could ask anything else, StaggPub and MobileChick7 began tossing ideas back and forth about who would still be able to spend time on the Newbie Chat. JC noticed that Galanci looked like he was on the verge of tears. Even Krawkie was unusually quiet, not voicing a single complaint. Only Gwynn seemed unconcerned. When MobileChick7 casually mentioned a rise in NeoSitting scams, Traumaneo jumped in.

“What, exactly, is a ‘NeoSitting scam’?”

“Basically, it comes from two different approaches,” StaggPub explained. The first is to trick people who want to help. They ask for someone to “babysit” or “NeoSit” while they are gone. Obviously, anyone doing this would have to have the password to get into that account. They tell the sitter that since they are trusting the other person to watch their account, the sitter must give them the password to his account “just to be safe”. Another way they trick people is by offering to NeoSit for anyone going on vacation. Once the other person gives out his password, they rush in and strip that person’s account, sometimes abandoning the pets in the pound and/or changing the password to lock the real owner out.”

“But isn’t it better to risk that than to leave us to fend for ourselves?” Krawkie complained. MobileChick7 shook her head sadly.

“It’s true that some people leave their accounts unattended for days at a time over the holidays, but there is absolutely no need to take a chance with a NeoSitter. Neopets offers Neolodge rooms for as little as 5np a day and they will care for everything during that time. They’ll let you get rooms for up to 28 days at a time, too, in case you don’t know how long you’ll be gone. Even if owners do not have fast computers or cannot play the Flash games, they can play enough games to afford the basics. NeoSitting is just evil.”

“So does that mean we’ll be at the Neolodge?” Galanci asked with his first sign of hope.

“Of course,You’ll be staying in the same one as JC. We set it up as a special surprise a couple of weeks ago. Happy Holidays, everyone!

GoGoGo

By daytonakit

GoGoGo can be a confusing game to start with.  I cannot recommend any sure-fire strategy to win.  But I can offer you some advice that will help you get the most out of your 50 NP (the cost to enter the game).

Here are a few screenshots along with suggested strategies to help you out:

The Ace is the only good card.  If you play it, then you’ll have nothing good later to play.  By then, the Discard pile will have grown and you’ll have to take several cards.  Since the King is currently the only card in the Discard pile, it will be easier to take the King and have an additional high card to play later.

As tempting as it may be to play the Two, play the Five instead.  Save your Twos for emergencies, when you have nothing else to play.  This will keep you in the game longer and it will stack the Discard pile nice and big for your opponents.

In this shot, you just had to pick up a Discard pile of 18 cards – YUCK!  This may turn into an advantage, however.  Your first move with this new hand will be to play all 4 Queens.  Playing the Queens will clear the pile, give you another turn, and prevent your opponents from using those Queens against you in the future.  SAVE YOUR TWOS FOR LATER.  They could get you out of a tricky situation as well as clear the Discard pile.  If the opponent playing right before you plays an Eight, King or Ace, use that to clear some more cards out of your hand and out of the Discard pile.

Play your Aces first.  The opponent will either pick up the cards or play the 4th Ace.  (You can’t see it, but he already has several cards in his hand so he won’t be finishing the game soon.)  Then on your next turn play your Twos, hence clearing the pile and giving yourself another turn.  Your final move will be to play your last Face Down card and finish the game.

This is where Tens come in handy.  You don’t want to open with a Ten because that wastes it.  However, using a Ten now will clear the Discard pile and give me another turn.  You can then play the Jacks, clear your hand, and begin working with your Face Ups.

What a crummy way to start!  You can only play Odds on a Three and even though it would make sense to me, the Ace does not count as an Odd.  Just pick it up and hope that this is not an omen of things to come.  On the next turn, you can play the Ten then get that useless Six out of the way afterward.

Another curse turns into a blessing.  Your opponent just played the King.  Play your Kings and clear them out of the game forever.  Then play your Threes and follow them with the Seven since it probably won’t do you much good anyway.  Again, save your Twos until the time comes that you have no other cards to play.
